In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TEDxConcordia is a powerful Montreal conference organized by independent organizers, learners and mentors, bringing together fascinating and unforgettable speakers. It is organized by volunteers who passionately believe in social change. TEDxConcordia strives at quenching the clear thirst for non-academic learning within Concordia and the Montreal community. Our team aims at sparking genuine curiosity and initiating a love for learning in its most fundamental way. The reaction has been loud and clear, TEDxConcordia is eagerly welcomed.
TEDxConcordia offered a great opportunity to share the three unique codes to igniting your passion and pursuing your goals.
The whole process from pitching my ideas to giving my talk was extremely easy on my end, thanks to the dedicated team they put together. They made sure that I would give the best talk I could possibly give by pairing me with a very talented and effective toastmaster. On the day of the event, I was impressed by the turn out, and the overall flow of the event. They had gathered an eclectic collection of speakers, and they managed to bring forth all their strengths onstage. I would definitely attend their future events.
I was extremely impressed with the dedication and professionalism of the organizers who didn’t miss a single detail. All the speakers were delighted with the program and I wholeheartedly endorse the upcoming 2017 event!
It sparks innovation, it sparks conversation and I think even relationships that can really grow from it. I find it absolutely inspiring.
It was a new experience. The word 'amazing' pops to my mind.

How Artificial Intelligence will make basic research self-sustainable
Sarah Jenna is a Professor in Genomics at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and CEO and co-Founder of My Intelligent Machines (MIMs; www.mims.ai), a company developing artificial Intelligence-powered platform to help life-scientists find, share and analyse their omic (genomic, proteomic, metabolomic…) data.
She received her Ph.D. degree in cell biology and microbiology in 1998 from the University Aix-Marseille in France. She was a post-doctoral fellow at McGill University in cell signaling, genomics and proteomics. She obtained in 2006 a Junior Canadian Research Chair in Integrative Genomics and Cell Signaling at UQAM. The research program she carries out in her laboratory (http://jennasarah.wixsite.com/jennaslab), develops novel integrative genomic strategies to better understand functional interactions between genes and the plasticity of signaling programs controlling epithelial morphogenesis in nematodes and humans. In 2007, she co-founded and co-directed Pharmaqam, an academic research centre in drug discovery. She is also a member of the director comity “Targets” of the “Réseau Québecois de recherche sur le médicament” (RQRM). Associate Professor in the Design and Computational Arts department
How Can Public Spaces Awaken Environmental Behavior?
Dr. Carmela Cucuzzella, is an Associate Professor in the Design and Computation Arts department and is holder of the Concordia University Research Chair in Integrated Design, Ecology and Sustainability for the Built Environment (ideas-be.ca). Her research work is framed within the broad domain of design studies where she investigates questions of sustainable design for urban living. She has contributed, along with 20 international experts, to the “Guidelines for Social Life Cycle Assessment of Products and Services (2009)” for the Life Cycle Initiative of the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. With Jean-Pierre Chupin, she co-edited Architecture Competitions and the Production of Culture, Quality and Knowledge: An International Inquiry (Montreal, 2015). Her varied background and expertise in environmental and social life cycle analysis, in green building rating systems, and in design and architecture, allows her to adopt a framework revolving around design’s interrelated dimensions of the cognitive-instrumental, the moral-practical and the aesthetic-expressive forms for conception and design discourse. In her CoLLaboratoire project, she seeks to understand how the collaborative design and implementation of interactive art-architecture in public urban spaces can contribute to a critique, deeper understanding and/or embodiment of sustainable urban, professional, community, and even human practices in the long term.
Lieutenant-General (ret) The Honorable Roméo A. Dallaire O.C., C.M.M., G.O.Q, M.S.C., C.D.
Next Generation’s opportunities, responsibilities and involvement in humanity and global community
General Roméo Dallaire is founder of the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative, a global partnership with the mission to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers. A celebrated advocate for human rights, General Dallaire is also a respected government and UN advisor and former Canadian Senator.
Throughout his distinguished military career, General Dallaire served most notably as Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda prior to and during the 1994 genocide. General Dallaire provided the United Nations with information about the planned massacre, which ultimately took more than 800,000 lives in less than 100 days; yet, permission to intervene was denied and the UN withdrew its peacekeeping forces. General Dallaire, along with a small contingent of Ghanaian soldiers and military observers, disobeyed the command to withdraw and remained in Rwanda to fulfill their ethical obligation to protect those who sought refuge with the UN forces.
Whether as military commander, humanitarian, senator or author, Roméo Dallaire has penetrated our national consciousness, often in supremely uncomfortable ways. Setting aside his natural reserve, he has felt compelled to bring national and international attention to situations too-often ignored, whether the atrocities of the Rwandan genocide, the recruitment and use of child soldiers, or the struggle that he and many other military veterans face with post-traumatic stress disorder.
